This Thursday is the most popular day for babies to be born – thanks to Boxing Day

SEPTEMBER 26 is the most popular day for Brits to give birth, following a very merry Boxing Day.

More than 2,000 babies are expected to be born on Thursday – a big spike from the average 1,800 per day.

A peak in late September birthdays shows more babies are conceived in the days around Christmas than any other time of year.

It’s not just Brits who like to get frisky at Christmas, data from the US and New Zealand shows a similar trend.

The research, undertaken by the Office for National Statistics, was analysed by Thortful – who have created a whole host of cheeky cards for those with September birthdays.

So why September 26? It could be due to couples having time off over Christmas, with the break from work – not to mention a glass or two of port – leaving them in the mood to get intimate.

The ONS suspects it’s partly because parents are planning for their kids to be born at the start of the school year.

In more parenting news, Britain’s most unpopular baby names have been revealed – and it’s bad news for Piers, Kelly and Grant.
