NBA star shot dead ‘by two men while sitting in his car’

FORMER NBA player Andre Emmett was shot dead early Monday morning in Dallas, Texas aged 37.

The ex-pro basketballer was approached by two men while sitting in his car on the front of his home, police confirmed.

Cops say the men pulled out a handgun and an altercation followed.

Emmett was gunned down as he attempted to run away and was found by a passerby, who called 911.

He was pronounced dead at hospital with police yet to disclose a motive.

The late star spent four years playing for Texas Tech University before he was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NBA draft with the 35th overall pick.

Emmett had stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and New Jersey Nets.

He most recently played professionally in the three-on-three league, BIG3.

According to a BIG3 profile he had “emerged as a leading MVP candidate and had one of the most impressive playoff runs in BIG3 history.”

A statement from the league said: “The BIG3 is in a state of shock over the sudden and tragic death of Andre Emmett.
