Nurse fighting for life after being stabbed in hospital A&E attempted murder

A nurse is fighting for her life after being stabbed at a hospital in Greater Manchester. A man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder following the shocking incident at the Royal Oldham Hospital at around 11:30pm last night (Saturday).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said, “it’s believed that a member of the public attacked a member of staff.” The victim, a woman in her 50s, remains in hospital receiving treatment for her “serious” injuries, which are believed to be “life-changing,” the force said.

It is understood the incident occurred in the A&E department of the hospital and that the victim, a nurse, was attacked with a “sharp instrument” that was not a knife.

A 37-year-old man was “swiftly arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder,” GMP said. He remains in custody for questioning. The investigation is in its early stages, but officers are “not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident,” the force added.
