Heartbreaking tributes as sports star’s fiancée found dead

Tributes have been paid to a woman whose body was recovered from a river earlier this week. Róisín Cryan was identified by police in Ireland after being found in the River Moy in Ballina. The 28-year-old was the fiancée of footballer Conor Loftus, who plays for the local team Crossmolina Deel Rovers.

The club wrote on X: “would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Róisín Cryan.”

One friend said of her death: “I met Roisin during what turned out to be the best summer of our lives, living together in San Francisco. From the moment we met, it was clear she had a special kind of energy – gentle, kind, and full of life.

“We were always up to some kind of mischief together, creating memories I’ll carry with me forever. Roisin was one of the most gentle and kind-hearted people I’ve ever known.

“I feel truly lucky to have shared that unforgettable summer with her. Sending condolences to her family and friends during this time. May beautiful Roisin rest in peace.”
