Man stabbed with machete in front of horrified shoppers

An attempted murder investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed with a machete in front of horrified shoppers in Bolton on Saturday (5 April).

Police and paramedics rushed to the shop on Kentmere Road in Breightmet at around 7.50pm following reports that a man had been stabbed. He sustained multiple injuries to his head and shoulder and was taken to hospital from the scene.

A suspect, a man in his 30s, was arrested by firearms officers on Sunday (6 April) on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning.

Officers were called to reports of a “man holding a machete” which was then used to attack the victim, police said. The attacker also caused “extensive damage” to the shop before fleeing the scene.
