BBC star dies aged 43 as tributes pour

Emilie Dequenne has tragically passed away at the age of 43 following a diagnosis of a rare form of cancer. The Belgian actress died at the age of 43, two years after being diagnosed with adrenocortical carcinoma.

Adrenocortical carcinoma is cancer of the adrenal gland, and in October 2023, Emilie revealed that she had begun treatment. In April 2024, she shared the positive news that she was in remission. At the time, she wrote in a hopeful post: “I was close to forgetting because I was leaving the hospital today after 13 days… What a tough battle.”

Unfortunately, the cancer returned at the end of last year. She told French television show TF1: “I know I will not live as long as planned,” as she spoke openly about her condition worsening over the months.

Emilie will be best remembered by BBC viewers for her role as Laurence Relaud in The Missing, which was a hugely popular drama for the broadcaster. She also starred in the film Rosetta, which earned her the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
