Brit TV drama star charged with child sex offences

Grange Hill actor John Alford has been accused of child sex offences. The actor, whose real name is John Shannon, faces a total of six charges.

John joined the cast of Grange Hill in 1985 at the age of 11, playing the role of Robbie Wright. He appeared in 113 episodes across five series. Following his time on Grange Hill, he featured in several TV dramas including London’s Burning, Mile High, and The Bill.

In the 1990s, he ventured into music, releasing a self-titled solo album in 1996, with three of his singles making it into the charts.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed that John, now 51, was charged on 16th July 2023 with the following offences: two counts of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16, two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16, assaulting a female aged 13 or over by penetration with part of a body or an object, and sexual assault on a female.
