Chaos in Leeds as riots erupt and police car overturned by angry mob in sick scenes

Leeds descended into chaos after police were called to a disturbance at a property in the suburbs of the city. A police car was overturned in the carnage after a riot broke out in Luxor Street in the Harehills area of Leeds.

Disturbing footage online showed an angry mob, including youngsters, smashing up a police car using items like scooters and prams – with officers reportedly left running for their lives, according to the Daily Express.

Police have now confirmed that they were called to a disturbance involving agency workers and children – before they were later moved to a safe space. Videos online show one man smashing a car with a pram while another shows a group overturning a police car – with whistles and cheers being heard in the background. A double-decker bus was also set on fire by rioters.

As reported by LeedsLive: “People have described the scenes as ‘mayhem’ and ‘a riot’ on social media. A video surfaced on Reddit at around 7.15pm as scooters, push chairs, bikes and bats were used in the assault on the blue-lighted vehicle. Hundreds of people are gathered around following the incident on Thursday evening.

“More footage of the aftermath surfaced on TikTok at 8pm where the police car has been shunted on to its side. Leeds Live does not have the full details of the incident but West Yorkshire Police has been contacted for more information.”
