FORMER Newcastle academy player Michael Newberry has tragically died at the age of 27. Newberry, who departed the Toon in 2018, joined Northern Irish club Cliftonville FC last summer.
Cliftonville announced Newberry’s death on Monday in a heartfelt tribute, with the club describing themselves as “shaken” by the loss.
The tribute read: “Cliftonville FC are devastated to learn of the sudden death of Michael Newberry.
“Our condolences are extended to Michael’s family and friends, as well as the many team-mates he played with during his career, and fans who will be shaken and saddened by this heartbreaking news. “This evening’s scheduled fixture with Dungannon Swifts at Solitude has been postponed.”
